Breaks from caring

You need time for you too

Caring can take up a huge amount of your time and energy. Having a break can give you space to rest, recharge and do something for yourself.

A break doesn't have to mean going away

Sometimes even a small amount of regular time for yourself can make caring feel more manageable.

A few hours to yourself

Time to rest, see friends, go shopping, exercise or simply do something that isn't connected to your caring role.

Something you enjoy

An activity, experience, day out or opportunity to rediscover something you enjoy outside of caring.

Regular time each week

Having something regular in the diary can give you time to look after your health, interests, relationships or other responsibilities.

A longer break

You may need more substantial time away from your caring role. The support needed to make this possible will be different for every family.

Do something that's for you

Mytime helps unpaid carers access breaks, activities and experiences donated by businesses across Liverpool City Region.

It could give you the chance to try something new, enjoy an experience with family or friends, or simply have some time away from your caring responsibilities.

If someone needs to step in

What if I can't leave the person I care for?

For some carers, taking a break is more complicated because the person they support cannot safely be left alone or needs care while they are away.

This is sometimes called replacement care or respite care. What may be available will depend on the needs of you and the person you care for, their existing care arrangements and your individual circumstances.

If this is what's stopping you from having time for yourself, talk to Liverpool Carers Centre. We can listen to what's happening and help you understand what your next steps could be.

Carer's Assessment

Is caring leaving you without enough time for yourself?

A Carer's Assessment can look at how caring affects your life and what support may help.
