Questions about carers support
Quick answers to some of the things carers ask us most often.
Liverpool Carers Centre supports unpaid adult carers who care for someone living in Liverpool. If you're unsure whether that includes you, contact us and we'll help you work it out.
No. You may still be an unpaid carer if you live separately but regularly provide practical or emotional support.
No. Caring can include emotional support, attending appointments, collecting medication, managing paperwork or finances, shopping, arranging care or regularly checking that someone is safe.
Yes. Many unpaid carers combine caring with work, education or family life. You may also have rights at work that can help you balance employment and caring.
No. Receiving Carer's Allowance is not what makes somebody a carer. If you regularly support someone who could not manage without that help, it is worth finding out what support is available.
It is an opportunity to look at how caring affects your wellbeing and quality of life, and what support could help. It is about your needs as a carer, not a test of how well you care.
Information, advice and support from Liverpool Carers Centre is free. If a separate external service or activity has a charge, this should be explained to you.
Professionals can contact Liverpool Carers Centre to discuss the appropriate referral route. Carers can also contact the Centre themselves.
If this is urgent, use the right service.
Liverpool Carers Centre is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger or there is a life-threatening emergency, call 999.
You don't have to work out the right service yourself.
Tell Liverpool Carers Centre what's happening and we'll help you find the most appropriate support or next step.
