Supported Lodgings Awareness Week

Householder Local Solutions Supported Lodgings

Local Solutions Supported Lodgings Awareness Week runs from Monday 16th September to Sunday 22nd September 2024. This important week highlights the vital role of Supported Lodgings in transforming the lives of young people, aged 16-24, helping them navigate the challenging transition from homelessness to independent living.

Supported Lodgings offers a lifeline to young people by providing them with a safe and nurturing environment within a family or household setting. This arrangement is more than just accommodation; it is a beacon of hope and stability. Householders play a pivotal role offering both a place to live and emotional support. They guide young people in developing essential life skills and preparing for a future where they can thrive independently. The essence of Supported Lodgings is to create a supportive space that fosters personal growth, encourages self-reliance, and ensures a stable foundation for the future.

Debbie Cooke, Strategic Lead, Support & Accommodation: “Supported Lodgings is not just about providing a roof over someone’s head, it’s about creating a home where young people can build their lives.

Our Householders are the unsung heroes in this journey, offering not only accommodation but also invaluable support and guidance. Their dedication is vital in helping young people overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.”

The importance of Supported Lodgings is highlighted by the growing number of young people seeking assistance. Last year, 124 individuals aged 16-24 were provided with a place to live through Supported Lodgings, reflecting the urgent need for effective support systems. Additionally, nearly 136,000 young people across the UK contacted their local councils due to the risk of homelessness, underscoring the critical role of Supported Lodgings in addressing this need.

Householders involved in Supported Lodgings are located across the Liverpool City Region and Flintshire. They can earn up to £900 per month for their role reflecting the significant impact they have on the lives of young people. This financial support is a testament to the value of their contribution as they provide more than just accommodation – they offer a chance for a brighter future.

Throughout the week and beyond, there will be a series events across the Liverpool City Region to highlight the importance of Supported Lodgings and the significant contribution of Householders.
